This extraordinary period which we have been facing for a while now has affected all of us, regardless of gender, status, or income. In this respect, while the pandemic forced us to make radical changes in our work and social life, it accelerated some of the changes we expected from the future. As our lives are rapidly transforming, it became clear that we are equipped with many skills that we did not realize we had before. The most important ones are our abilities to adapt quickly to any of the changing conditions and to produce solutions. Now is the time to use these skills for equality in all areas.

Coronavirus Outbreak and Gender Equality in the Business World

When there is an epidemic that continues to affect billions of people for more than a year, it is for sure not that simple to understand how this epidemic "actually" influences our lives. I try to evaluate the epidemic within the framework of "gender equality in the business world" and understand how it shaped us within this framework. Whether working from home or in the field, growth of domestic responsibilities, anxiety, the uncertainty we all are facing, increase in health concerns, burdens that are not distributed evenly in some roles, are exhausting for all women, including me. I am so happy to be a part of Borusan Cat, one of the companies that have taken the necessary steps for equal distribution of burdens and equality models since long before the epidemic. The entire business world must realize the importance of taking these measures to rid the female workforce of the concerns for the nearest future.

Pandemic Highlights Gender Inequality

While the pandemic highlights gender inequality, it also shows us the solution. Keeping gender equality constantly on the agenda, supporting good practices in all areas of life, and, more importantly, taking steps towards sharing the burden equally, starting with our closest ones, will become the most important gain we can get out of the pandemic. In a world where everyone does their best within the scope of their power and influence, it is not a dream to eliminate all inequalities, especially gender inequality.

The Key to the Solution: Us!

We all have a responsibility to eliminate gender-based inequality and to ensure gender equality in professional fields. We live in a new world where we can observe that too many institutions fulfill their responsibilities not to leave the issue at a desperate and unsolvable point.

As Borusan Cat, the company which has spread to different countries under the roof of the Borusan Holding, we support gender equality not only in this epidemic period but in our professional field with our corporate culture and continue to produce solutions as well.
