BC: Hello, today we are talking to Nurtugan Uzakbay and Anuar Danibek, who share a common interest in Borusan Cat even though they are in different fields. First of all, could you please introduce yourself?

Nurtugan: After starting my career at Borusan Cat Kazakhstan 7 years ago as an Administrative Department Specialist in Astana, I am currently working as a Spare Parts and Service Sales Representative. I undertake tasks such as promotion, sales of spare parts and services, and communication with customers. Although work takes up most of my time, I try to adhere to the principle of "work-life balance".

Anuar: It has been 1.5 years since I joined Borusan Cat Kazakhstan. Currently, I am working in the position of Specialist of Parts and Service Sales Department. I love my job and feel that it gives me the opportunity to grow and develop. So, thanks to my work in our company, I became smarter in using time, and in general, I made a level up in my life.

BC: Can you tell us about the importance of sports in your life?

Nurtugan: Sport has always been an important part of my life since childhood. I started doing judo when I was still in school, I participated in regional, republican, and international tournaments and won prizes. Sports taught me discipline and independence in my childhood, and I can say that judo is the main reason why sports is an integral part of my life.

Besides swimming, I play football, I run, and I go to the gym every day. Football is especially important for me. My friends and I sponsor and play for a football team in Astana's "Amateur Football League". In the spring 2023 season, we became champions in our league. Successes and victories in competitions, and the joy of new achievements fill my life with positive emotions and energy. Order and discipline are very important in sports, it is difficult to maintain my regime given the constant business trips and irregular schedule, but I try to take my sports equipment with me on every trip and find time to train.

Anuar: I have been interested in sports since I was very young. I remember myself as an energetic child from the very beginning of my life. My father always told me that sports develop skills like speed, agility, and endurance. Over time I realized that sport has other amazing properties: It can unite people, strengthen health, character, and even improve people's mental abilities. As a child I played soccer, as a teenager I took up judo, and I started running five years ago.

BC: It was very difficult to play sports during the pandemic. Can you tell us about your experiences during this period?

Nurtugan: Quarantine during the pandemic brought big changes to my life, as it probably did for many people. I was introduced to long-distance running for the first time when all the gyms were closed, and sports tournaments were canceled. I was not very interested in running before, but I became very interested after my first race and my first medal.

Anuar: In 2020, I moved to the capital and as soon as I moved, quarantine started, and it was impossible to leave the house. After quarantine, I couldn't get back to my old form. I was not happy with myself, but when my friends invited me to run, everything changed. For a while, we just ran. I came to a very simple conclusion: doing sports helps not only to increase physical fitness, to lose a little more weight, but also to better resist depression and stress, therefore to improve not only the duration but also the quality of life. After a while, my running started to be replaced by training every other day.

BC: Becoming an Ironman and running a marathon seem like very difficult goals. How did you decide to tackle these challenges and how did you continue?

Nurtugan: After I became interested in running during the pandemic, the most colorful and emotionally intense running event for me was the Ironman 70.3 triathlon competition, where my colleagues and I shared three sports events as a team. Participating in such a large-scale event required active preparation, and I started consciously preparing for the race three months before the relay: I increased my running training to 4-5 times a week, adjusted my nutrition, worked on running technique, and worked with professional running coaches several times. But the most important thing, of course, is the feeling you get when you are part of an event of this scale. The relay was my first step into a triathlon, in 2024 I plan to take part individually, completing all stages of running, cycling, and swimming. This goal requires an ambitious and comprehensive approach, so I have already started training and preparation!

Anuar: While I was doing my running training during the pandemic, I started setting goals for myself. One of the goals was to run a full marathon, and in 2021 I ran a full marathon in the capital of our homeland. Since then, I started exercising often and realized that it was impossible to give up this cause. I have 1 full marathon, several half marathons, and 1 half Ironman on my account. This sport requires a lot of hard work and dedication. But it gives much more: invaluable experience, many emotions, new acquaintances, and discipline.

BC: What would you like to say to those who want to become an Ironman, run a marathon, or start sports?

Nurtugan: The reason I love sports is to push the limits both physically and emotionally. Sport makes us strong and healthy; it helps to strengthen our willpower. Sport is what makes our lives brighter and more fulfilling. If you want to diversify your daily life, or if you want to get out of your comfort zone, I recommend starting with sports. Sport is a path to life, it is emotions, it is development, it is overcoming, and sport has no limits!

Anuar: My life motto is "Live forever - learn forever". I develop every day, I work, and I attend trainings and webinars. I believe that everyone can make the world a better place through their actions. My goal in life is to help other people and contribute to the development of society. For this, I find it necessary to play sports, because it gives me the discipline for everything I want to do in life, and I recommend it to everyone.

BC: Thank you for sharing your experiences with theBClog readers!
