At the core of every project developed by Borusan Cat, there is the mentality of continuous improvement. We consider questions like "How can we do our job better tomorrow?" and "How can we improve this process in the future?" as essential for the greater good of the world.

As we continue to implement our vision of ensuring business continuity through our Revision Centers, we strive to create saving opportunities for our customers and sustain resources for our planet. All the while, we are confident that there's always room for improvement.

Today, I want to mention our program "Best Practices," where the principle of continuous improvement serves as the starting point. Given how dedicated every Borusan Cat employee is to learn and develop, it would be a significant waste not to pay attention to their valuable insights, don't you think?

What Are Caterpillar Best Practices?

Allow me to tell you a bit about the program itself. Caterpillar Best Practices stands out as a program originating in Revision Centers in the resource industry and spreading to all other areas. I can summarize it in a single sentence: "A program where everyone contributes ideas for the benefit of all."

With Caterpillar Best Practices, from interns to technicians, everyone within Borusan Cat can suggest improvements to processes! No idea is too small, and we encourage everyone to participate in this program. Because we know how to do our job best!

Before the Best Practices project, we had a board where we shared ideas. The main idea remains the same. People share their ideas around the principle of ‘continuous improvement’, and a committee evaluates them. After this evaluation, ideas with high scores are forwarded for implementation. Once implemented, these ideas become part of the processes under the title of "Best Practices."

Of course, the evaluation process is quite thorough. The benefits an idea will bring are examined, how much it will improve processes is determined, and actions are taken accordingly. Additionally, we have a template that simplifies the application process, allowing participants to submit their ideas in the most accurate way.

Ideas Illuminate the Darkness

Sometimes, the best ideas are the simplest ones, illuminating the corners we do not see. No, really! Let me share one of my favorite Caterpillar Best Practices projects, the idea of using reflective tape in the hydraulic test room.

Yes, you heard right, this idea suggested using reflective tape to improve visibility in the dark. In fact, you might think, "Wasn't reflective tape supposed to be there from the start?" and I agree! But that's how the best ideas often are – they are immediately understood and easily implemented. That's why we want everyone to propose ideas they think could be useful, whether they're big or small, for the Caterpillar Best Practices program.

How Are Caterpillar Best Practices Going?

Certainly, for this program, it's essential to mention the significance of equality and freedom of expression within Borusan Cat's culture. In an environment where people cannot freely express their ideas, efforts in programs like Caterpillar Best Practices end up in vain. In an environment that encourages individual expression, the situation is entirely different. In fact, programs like Caterpillar Best Practices turn into magnificent success stories!

Among the 30 Best Practices implemented by Borusan Cat's international team of employees and distributors, 13 projects have the signature of Borusan Cat Turkey. We proudly hold the title of "the first construction industry dealer to achieve this success." I take pride in that! Additionally, about 20 suggestions are currently in the approval process.

Just this year, we collected 1027 proposals alone, indicating that Caterpillar Best Practices continue to embrace the idea of continuous improvement. Looking at a system where new and exciting ideas are added every day, I can confidently say that this number will increase in the future.

The Best Award for Caterpillar Best Practices: Continuity and Inclusivity

As I mentioned before, anyone can participate in the Caterpillar Best Practices program! This, of course, is possible thanks to the principle of inclusivity, which is a vital part of our culture. We, as Borusan Cat Turkey Revision Centers, see this as one of our great achievements.

Of course, participation comes with its benefits! Each suggested idea can bring different advantages and benefits to the idea owner at every stage. Moreover, we congratulate everyone who earns the title of "Caterpillar Best Practice" by celebrating them publicly for the whole company to see, and we crown it with an interview on our Cat Walk platform.

We continue to work at full throttle to bring the best ideas to life in the best possible way, in line with our company purpose, "We Create Solutions For A Better World." I'm already looking forward to the next idea from the Caterpillar Best Practices program!

Volkan Yayman

I was born on December 31, 1980, in Edremit, Balıkesir. I am married and have 1 daughter (+ I am also a "father" to a cat 😊). I am about to complete my 14th year at Borusan Cat. During my journey at Borusan Cat, starting as a warranty engineer in İzmir, I have served in 7 different roles, mostly in operations, and have been involved in establishing many processes that were firsts for both our company and the Caterpillar world. In the 20th year of my mechanical engineering career, I plan to complete my bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, another area of my interest. I started collecting coins and banknotes from various countries during my high school years and continued this hobby. I am particularly interested in out-of-circulation currencies. Finally, I really enjoy listening to metal music, especially in recent years, Scandinavian metal bands.
