Hello theBClog readers, I’m Ali Berk Öz. I have been working as a Hydraulic Product Specialist at Borusan Cat for about 3 years. In this article, I will share a project with you that demonstrates how we add value to operational continuity through a strategic solution.
During my time in this role, one of the clearest insights I've gained in the field is this: A hydraulic hose may seem like a small component, but when it fails, it is a critical part that can bring an entire operation to a halt. This need becomes much more evident, especially for customers like public institutions that have large equipment fleets featuring various brands and models.
With this approach in mind, the hose workshop we established on-site for the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality was not just a technical investment; it was a strategic step that strengthened their operational continuity.
What is an On-Site Hose Workshop?
The hose workshop we installed consists of an integrated system that enables the production of hydraulic hoses exactly when needed, right within our customer's own operational area. This system includes:
- Crimper (hose crimping machine)
- Hose cutting saw
- Cleaning and assembly equipment
Thanks to this infrastructure, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality can service over 100 pieces of equipment manufactured by Caterpillar and other brands, and is now capable of producing genuine Caterpillar hoses in-house. As a result, their reliance on external suppliers is reduced, and response times in the field are significantly shortened.
More Than Just a Technical Installation
For us, this project was not merely about placing equipment. Our main goal was to create a safe and sustainable solution model that eliminates the time our customer loses in the field.
In a public institution, waiting on equipment doesn't just mean a delay in one task; it means the disruption of the entire service chain. With this newly established hose workshop, our customer gains:
- Shorter waiting times
- Increased operational efficiency
- The assurance of genuine parts
- The ability to intervene quickly and in a controlled manner in the field.
This elevates the project beyond a standard workshop installation, turning it into a comprehensive solution that ensures operational reliability.
The Right Solution for the Right Need
The extensive equipment fleet and intensive field operations of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality provided the perfect foundation for this application. By accurately analyzing the need, we brought the solution directly to the customer's site.
This approach became the concrete, on-the-ground equivalent of the Borusan Cat philosophy: "creating solutions at the point closest to the customer's work."
What Does This Model Bring to Borusan Cat?
We designed the hose workshop installation not only as a service that generates operational value for the customer but also as a sustainable business model for Borusan Cat.
Prior to the project, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality primarily used non-genuine hoses that were not manufactured by Caterpillar. Thanks to the established workshop and a specially defined discount structure, the municipality now prefers genuine Caterpillar hoses. As the first step of the project, we created a bulk initial stock order with our customer.
For Borusan Cat, this approach means:
- Increased sales of genuine Caterpillar hoses and couplings
- A continuous demand for parts, specifically hoses, couplings, and related components
- Standardization and brand loyalty within the customer's equipment fleet
- Long-term and predictable business volume for our sales teams.
In other words, we turned the hose workshop into more than just an installation; it became a solution that integrates the customer more strongly into the Borusan Cat ecosystem.
From Operational Value to Commercial Continuity
Through this model, our customer procures the products they need to crimp hoses directly from Borusan Cat, while we establish a sales channel that is closer to the field, more permanent, and more sustainable.
Designed with a win-win approach, this structure offers a powerful instrument for our sales teams in the field.
A New Expansion Model in the Hose Business
This successful application has also provided us with an important roadmap for the future. The on-site hose workshop model is not a one-off solution for this project; it is a scalable structure that can be adapted to different customer profiles.
In the upcoming period, our goals are:
- To expand this model across different public and private sector customers
- To make our hose business closer to the field, faster, and more accessible
- To create lasting solutions that enhance the operational power of our customers.
Into the Future with Strong Collaborations
We would like to thank all the Borusan Makina ve Güç Sistemleri teams who contributed to this project, and the Caterpillar ecosystem for their collaboration.
At Borusan Cat, we continue to understand the real needs of our customers in the field and produce solutions that add value to those needs.
Because our purpose is always clear: We Create Solutions For a Better World.
