A Hobby, A Friend, A Teacher... My Equestrian Journey

To me, life signifies seizing moments to their maximum potential. Tending to both my physical and spiritual well-being, while contributing value to my own being and the world around me, stand as essential cornerstones in my existence.

I love doing sports and I am interested in horseback riding. For the last two years, horse riding has been one of the most beautiful activities that have added meaning to my life. Although horseback riding is essentially considered a sport, unlike many other sports, it involves the process of a sweet creature graciously joining your life and touching your heart. I think horseback riding is one of the most beautiful sports to nourish the soul and stay in the "moment". Every weekend we spend pleasant times with my beautiful horse Canello, who allows me to accompany him to the Ankara Equestrian Sports Club. I believe that engaging in a sport that nourishes our spirits amidst the hustle and bustle of our lives holds tremendous benefits for all.

Horse riding demands substantial physical exertion, comparable to an intense fitness session, burning calories at a notable rate. The act engages a diverse array of muscles simultaneously, making it harder than it seems to be. You need to make sure that your feet and body are positioned correctly, and you need to lift your body into the air with the force of your feet while riding. Physically, it strengthens cardiovascular and muscular development and teaches balance and coordination. There are three different types of gait used by the horse: " walk, trot, and gallop". Walking involves a leisurely pace, trotting showcases the horse's advance through energetic strides, while galloping signifies a swifter and more spirited gait. To progress successfully in the equestrian branch, it is necessary to be disciplined, consistent and to train regularly. These sweet friends of ours, who are always ready to support you, cannot be neglected. As in every field, it is necessary to spend time and effort.

Moreover, I view riding as an ongoing journey of learning. Horses, with their demands for patience and empathy, impart valuable lessons. This approach fosters courage, empathy, mindfulness, and effective communication, all of which they instill within us. Horseback riding requires not only technical instruction and skill but also calm and attentive communication skills. When you cannot communicate with the horse, it does not want to spend time with you. Therefore, the harmony you achieve with the horse is important for your riding.

Equestrian sport has been in the lives of Turks for a very long time. The first traces of this sport in history are found in Turkish states. Equestrian sport is a widespread and demanded sport in our country and many races and races are organized every year. Among these, the Gazi Run stands as the most significant, a tradition dating back to 1927 by the decree of the revered leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. This prestigious event unfolds at the Istanbul Veli Efendi Hippodrome, capturing the attention of a diverse audience—both enthusiastic spectators and dedicated practitioners alike—reflecting the broad appeal of horseback riding.

I continue to be with my beautiful horse Canello every weekend. I would like to thank our lovely friends who accompany us while practicing this beautiful sport and our Borusan Corporate Communications department for allowing me to tell you about them!
