Hello, theBClog readers! I’m Murat. Since 2014 I’ve been part of the Borusan Cat family, and for the past three years I’ve been serving as a senior technician in the mining segment.

In this post, I’d like to highlight our company’s unwavering commitment to safe working conditions—for both our teammates and our customers. I believe that having a strong safety culture not only reduces risk, but also fosters trust, respect and collaboration on site.

In the mining segment, our stable crew provides service at a gold mine in Turkiye—where mobile equipment servicing is handled differently than usual. The first time I encountered it, I was impressed by the standardized systems operating in all mines, and the maintenance processes built around them.

When I first arrived at the mine, I encountered massive machines used exclusively at that site in Turkiye—the giant Cat 785C haul truck and similarly sized 993K loader. New machines, new knowledge, new risk assessments… in short, I had many new experiences ahead of me.

Mining is known to be a tough and dangerous working environment. At this site we follow universal occupational health and safety regulations rigorously to ensure operations run smoothly and securely. Our customers are well aware of these rules, too. Beyond ore production, worker health is always prioritized. In fact, this commitment is something I’ve grown used to within our company, so it no longer surprises me.

We can easily report potential hazards and risks to the customer’s senior management. And the customer takes swift action, briefing their team accordingly. This approach helps us feel safer at work, and sharpens our risk awareness.

Let me share a specific incident during a 785C haul truck overhaul. When disassembling all components, we need to replace the harness cable groups on the chassis. Accessing the upper sections of the machine can be tricky. One of my teammates attempted the job by placing a platform ladder on the chassis,a move I immediately identified as hazardous. I stopped the task and informed the service engineer. We evaluated the situation and I recommended renting a mobile basket crane to complete the job safely. The customer agreed, halting the job until the crane arrived the next day. We then completed the task safely, as planned. The operation was recorded as a “positive observation” in the customer’s records and was even mentioned during a senior management meeting, earning their appreciation.

Even the best equipment can become risky if used without awareness. Reflecting on this example, I realized how simple actions—caring for each other’s safety, finding collective solutions, and not hesitating to ask for help—can turn big problems into small ones.

It’s a great honor to embody our company culture on the customer’s site. As a whole team, we will continue upholding Borusan Cat’s culture and discipline in the field, supporting our customer’s goal of creating a healthy, safe, and positive work environment.

Our journey has only just begun.
