In the late 90s and early 2000s, interest in environmentally oriented professions increased throughout the world. Signals coming from the environment remind us every year more and more that increased attention should be paid to the necessary research in this area. In our country, it is quite possible to receive signals about the need for environmental research from forests, seas, and air. Considering that our country is 74% water, 2.5% of this norm is freshwater, if we take into account that 65% of our country`s population will face difficulties in accessing water in 2030 as a result of changing consumption habits with increasing population, we will see once again that an emergency plan needs to be created.
Every step taken, be it individual or collective, civic or institutional, matters a lot. Those who take the habit of conscientious consumption and make it the motto of their lives take on a social role, setting an example for those around them. Saving-oriented consumption and an emphasis on recycling will contribute to both the family budget and the environmental cleanup. Likewise, businesses that generate less waste and cost-conscious decision-makers will reduce the destructive burden on the environment. We are going through critical times when small changes can have significant results.
In addition to the“200 Years Sustainability Group”goal thatBorusanhas taken on as a holding company, changes and emission reduction targets to be met by 2030 have been defined byBorusanCat in 6 countries, including Turkey, and project studies with subgroups have been started to achieve these goals. For example, feasibility studies have begun for panels that will collect solar energy on the rooftops of a facility in Adana, where the sunshine duration is quite long. The results of the feasibility study have been approved, and the project will be implemented as soon as possible. Likewise, the Gebze facility is engaged in similar solar energy projects. Even though we are the tenants of properties in Gebze, the value we leave behind will affect the whole world and future generations; and we draw strength from this thought.
Another issue that is no less important than energy consumption is the conscious consumption of water. Although not used in production, there is a need to use water and cleaning chemicals in maintenance and parts. By changing the detergent consumption, we have cut the water consumption in half compared to the previous year. By providing wastewater treatment and discharge into canals, we have made changes to the equipment through innovative designs.
We focus on reuse and recycling. We have doubled the oil change period, extending the life of the engine oils used. Thus, the amount of waste has also been reduced. We are getting closer and closer to our goal of minimizing waste through efficient use.
Another key issue in green production is inspection. We always keep the process under control, conducting both internal and external audits at our facilities. We have documented our work with our current ISO 14001 certification and are one step closer to the promise of a clean environment that we make to future generations.
